Royal Enfield has introduced the all-new Scram 440, priced at Rs 2.08 lakh for the Trail variant and Rs 2.15 lakh for the Force variant (both ex-showroom prices). This makes the Trail variant just Rs 1,300 costlier than the outgoing Scram 411.
The Scram 440 brings a host of upgrades, including a larger 443cc, air/oil-cooled engine producing 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm at 4,000rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. This increase in displacement and the additional gear promises better touring capability compared to its predecessor.
Variants and Features
The Scram 440 is available in two distinct variants:
- Trail Variant:
- Equipped with 19/17-inch spoke wheels and tube-type tyres, this variant is ideal for off-road trails.
- Colours: Trail Blue and Trail Green, both with a matte finish.
- Force Variant:
- Features alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, making it a more practical choice for long tours.
- Colours: Force Blue, Force Grey, and Force Teal.
Both variants share the same design language, which is largely inspired by the Scram 411. Highlights include a round headlight with a small cowl, a large fuel tank, and a slim tail section.
Cycle Parts and Hardware
- Suspension: Telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the rear.
- Braking: Single disc brakes at both ends with switchable dual-channel ABS.
- Wheels and Tyres:
- Trail: Spoke wheels with tube-type tyres.
- Force: Alloy wheels with tubeless tyres for touring convenience.
Performance and Practicality
The bigger engine and six-speed gearbox improve the Scram 440’s touring capability. The Trail variant’s spoke wheels make it more robust for off-road adventures, while the Force variant’s alloy wheels cater to riders looking for convenience on long journeys.
Competition
The Royal Enfield Scram 440 competes with the Triumph Scrambler 400X and Yezdi Scrambler, both of which are popular choices in the scrambler segment.
